GRAFTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Leonard Cleavenger, 86, of Philippi, WV, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Mansfield Place in Philippi.
He was born in Philippi on March 11, 1937, a son of the late Brooks M. and Clara (Costilow) Cleavenger.
Mr. Cleavenger is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna Marie (Brownfield) Cleavenger, whom he married on March 21, 1977. Leonard is also survived by one son, Leonard Dale Cleavenger of Flemington; one granddaughter, Lillyanna Marie Cleavenger of Belington; and two sisters: Dorothy Renault and Clara Marie Boyer, both of Ohio.
In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by siblings: David Cleavenger, Glenwood “Buck” Cleavenger, Brooks Cleavenger Jr., James “Jimmy” Cleavenger, Dow Estel Cleavenger, Cindy Wingate, Betty Jean Ichon, and Violet Evans.
Mr. Cleavenger served his country honorably in the United States Army. He worked many years at Sugar Creek Children’s Center in Philippi with his wife and also as a coal miner. Leonard enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger days, and more recently watching television. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially loved his granddaughter. Leonard was Pentecostal by faith.
Family and friends will be received at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home, 950 George Washington Hwy., Grafton, WV, on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at noon with Pastor Joe Palmer presiding.
