Pictured are CareCrows who did numerous performances throughout the campaign, which also generated many donations.
OAKLAND — Students at Brenda’s Body Shop recently spearheaded a community dance project called CareCrows. They rebranded the scarecrow to not be scary, but to show how much they care.
The CareCrow project allowed participants to dance, perform and create their own costumes. The fun-loving CareCrows performed at concerts and throughout the Autumn Glory Festival. The group earned first place in the annual Autumn Glory parade.
The dancers collected donations from pledges, sponsors and performances, with the campaign raising $12,600 for Cindy’s Fund, a local charity that helps people with cancer in Garrett County.
Part of the campaign was to distribute small stick CareCrows to raise awareness. CareCrows visited the local nursing homes to show they cared by leaving a stick CareCrow for each resident.
“We look forward to our community dance project every year,” said Brenda Brosnihan, studio director. “It’s been a tradition at Brenda’s Body Shop for over 20 years. This year pushed our grand total to just over $240,000. The support and generosity of our community is truly astounding. We are so grateful for the unending support and enthusiasm.
