Diana Kay (Johnson) Hizer, 67, of Ravenswood, WV, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023, at home, following a brief illness. She was born October 26, 1956, in Charleston, WV, a daughter of JoAnn (Bott) Johnson and the late Loudon Johnson. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, George “John” Hizer and sister, Loudonna Watkins. Diana was a United States Army Veteran having served during Desert Storm. She was reactivated into the Army Reserve following the 9/11 terrorist events and worked at the 305th Military Police Detachment in Grantsville. Diana also worked for the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier in Gandeeville for several years. She never met a stranger and loved being able to take care of others. Diana was a member of Fannin Chapel in Ravenswood, American Legion Post 107 Ripley, WV, where she also served in the Honor Guard, and the CEO’s. She loved her family, her dog, Riley, and going to her camp. Survivors in addition to her mother, include her daughter, Michelle Kunkel and her husband, Chris of Gandeeville; sister, Linda Moore and her husband, Larry of Shinnston, WV; grandchildren, Rebecca Marcum and her husband Ethan, Tyler McQuain, David McQuain; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Gary Watkins; and two special ladies who she claimed as her own, Shanna Riley and Jade Mallory. A military graveside service will be held at a later date in the Ravenswood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Legion or the Jackson County Hunting Heroes.
