Four year old Annalynn Lane visited The Mason County Commission on Thursday along with her family and friends to mark November as Diabetes Awareness Month
POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (WV News) - The Mason County Commission held a regular meeting last Thursday, during which a declaration was made and funds were granted towards the creation of new softball dugouts.
Commissioners Tracy Doolittle, Rick Handley and Sam Nibert were all present along with County Clerk Diana Cromley and County Administrator Jason Bechtle.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Cromley led an opening prayer.
Four year old Annalynn Lane visited the commissioners along with her friends and family to share information on diabetes, which Lane was diagnosed with in 2021. The commissioners voted to declare November as Diabetes Awareness Month in Mason County on Lane's behalf, and commended her resiliency.
Adam Watson appeared before the commission to provide an update on the effort to create new dugouts at Point Pleasant Intermediate School, and to establish a new softball league. Watson brought a design proposal, and a quote for materials.
He said the league would provide the labor, but funding assistance would be needed for the purchase of materials. The commissioners said they would review the proposal. Later in the meeting the commission voted to grant $5,000 towards the project.
Cromley sought approval for a part-time hire for her office's records room, which the commission granted.
Cromley also stated that Mason County will be able to receive files electronically beginning the first of the new year.
The commission approved a lease renewal for Peoples Bank.
A motion was approved to create a Fire Protection Fund, EMS Salary Enhancement Fund, and an Opioid Settlement Fund.Â
Bechtle presented a letter from the Mason Library requesting appropriations to purchase a new building. The commissioners agreed to explore options.Â
Bechtle asked for approval for the commission's office to work with Cromley's office towards the establishment of a new email system with access to the cloud. Cromley noted that the new system would provide greater cybersecurity. The commission approved the proposal.Â
The commission agreed to update introductory policies for employees of their office.Â
