RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. (WV News) — During the Tuesday evening Ravenswood City Council meeting, Clay Riley and Zac Thompson with Thrasher Group were on hand to present bids received on three contracts involving Phase 2A of the sewer project.
After providing information on the 17 bids that were submitted across the three projects, Route 2 South, Route 2 North and the pump stations, Riley gave Thrasher’s recommendation for each.
For contract one, the recommendation of Doss Enterprises, LC out of Jane Lew was suggested. The bid that was submitted totaled $4,283,770.
Contract two was recommended to go to Pro Contracting, Inc. from Lost Creek in the amount of $6,716,165.
The recommendation of contract three was to award the bid to Green River Group out of Morgantown. The bid amount was $4,429,500.
After review, the council voted to approve Thrasher’s recommendations.
Ravenswood Chief of Police Lance Morrison made a special presentation to Pfc. Chris Morehead.
“On September 3, Pfc. Morehead was dispatched to the Ritchie Bridge in reference to a possible bridge jumper,” Morrison said. “When officers arrived on the scene, the suicidal subject was seated with his legs over the edge of the bridge and prepared to push himself off, which would have been certain death.”
According to Morrison, the subject began screaming at officers to stay away or he would jump.
“As Deputy J.B. Thompson began conversing with the male, Pfc. Morehead began gaining a position of advantage behind the subject,” Morrison added. “Seeing Pfc. Morehead moving to a strategic position, Deputy Thompson purposely kept the male’s attention and continued conversing with him. Pfc. Morehead eventually became close enough to lean over the edge and grab him, pulling him back, thus saving his life.”
The gentleman was then transported to Camden Clark Hospital.
“Pfc. Morehead’s actions reflect well on himself, the City of Ravenswood and the Ravenswood Police Department,” Morrison said. “Due to his heroic act, we wish to award him the Life Saver Medal.”
