— The “Soup-er” Luncheon Veteran Fundraiser will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. on Nov. 19 at the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department. Proceeds for this fundraising event will benefit and support three veteran programs: The Veterans Yoga Project, Garrett County Shut-in Veteran Christmas Program and The Veteran Vitality Project.
Tickets for the Luncheon are $20 for two people. All veterans are welcomed for free (please text/call to confirm attendance). The ticket will include: Choice of one soup, salad, beverage and dessert; plus five free luncheon door prize tickets. There will be a door prize and the raffle drawings at 2 p.m., and winners do not need to be present to win. Please contact Tina at 301-616-8795 or Cassie at 301-268-2628 to purchase tickets.
— The Drane House Bake Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 2 at the Accident Town Hall. Anyone interested in donating baked goods or giving a monetary donation to purchase baked goods can contact Pam at 301-616-8529. Email: Pam8525@verizon.net
Dinners
— St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church is hosting a free community meal on the next-to-last Thursday of each month (but that is adjusted for holidays) from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The meal is served at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church located at 126 E. Liberty Street in Oakland.
The next two meal dates are Nov. 16, and Dec. 14. (November and December were adjusted for the holidays.)
— Free community suppers in the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church social hall in Oakland are held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. every second Monday of the month.
— Divine Hope Church’s soup kitchen is held from 4-6:30 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month. This is takeout only. 110 Weber Road, Oakland.
