Skeletal remains were discovered in Mercer County, according to a report from the West Virginia State Police.
On November 13, 2023, troopers were dispatched to the Sherman Oaks Road area in Bluefield, WV, following a call from a tree-cutting company. The company had uncovered what appeared to be skeletal remains while working in the area.
Local law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and confirmed that the remains were of human origin. The remains were subsequently sent to the West Virginia Medical Examiner's Office for identification.
Currently, both the cause of death and the identity of the victim remain unknown.
Authorities have classified this as an ongoing death investigation and are appealing for anyone with information about the case to contact the State Police Princeton detachment at (304) 425-2101.
