BECKLEY, W.Va. (WV News) — As a goalkeeper in a penalty shootout, if you can save one kick, you’ve given your team a fighting chance to win.
That’s exactly what Point Pleasant’s Brecken Loudin did on Saturday.
With the Black Knights down 3-2 in the shootout entering the fourth round, Loudin dove to deny Arden Curry’s attempt.
Point Pleasant made its last two kicks and that, combined with a Charleston Catholic miss, clinched the program’s first state championship in the most thrilling fashion after losing in the final to the Irish the previous two seasons.
“That was massive, just to make sure we got back into it,” Point Pleasant coach Chip Wood said. “You know you’re not out of it until you run out of kicks.”
It’s the WV News Play of the Week, sponsored by GameChanger and chosen from plays from around the WV News family.
