FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WV News) — The vaunted ‘Wayne T’ gave Fairmont Senior everything they could handle on Friday.
Clinging to a 31-27 lead, the Polar Bears had their backs against their own end zone, defending a third-and-8 for the Pioneers from the 17-yard line.
Then Cannon Dinger made a boom that echoed around the Class AA playoffs, intercepting a pass with 1:25 remaining in the fourth quarter to lock up advancement for the second-seeded Polar Bears over the 15th-seed Pioneers.
“The interception by Cannon was just one of several plays we made in the fourth quarter,” Fairmont Senior coach Nick Bartic said. “It was just one of those games where we were able to survive.”
It’s the WV News Play of the Week, sponsored by GameChanger and chosen from plays from around the WV News family.
