RIPLEY, W. Va. (WV News) — The first season of the Bob Wilkinson era as Ripley High School’s head boys soccer coach ended with a record of 6-13-2.
The Vikings picked up the majority of their wins on the road, going 5-7-1. At home, Ripley was 1-6-1.
Freshman Eli Jenkins scored nine goals for the Vikings and had nine assists.
Freshman Cade McCoy finished with seven goals and three assists.
Devin Rader, a junior, had seven goals and three assists.
Ripley graduates Jeremiah Casto, Parker Cobb and Levi Casto.
“Our returning players are excited for next season,” said Wilkinson. “I think the end of the season we had a tough run of results and they are wanting to improve on that.
“We will be working on our midfield defense next season. We need to find a way not to be so open in the middle of the field. Our defense was strong down the flanks but out of position much of the time down the middle.”
Wilkinson added, “Next season there will be good competition at all positions and that will lift the whole team. I’m proud of the effort this team gave this year and I’m excited to build on that.
“Having a full season of high school soccer will also help the coaching staff grown and be better. We know what to expect now and can build a better game plan going into the offseason and preseason of next year.”
