The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia, Will Thompson, has announced that a significant number of people involved in a drug trafficking organization (DTO) operating in the Huntington area have been indicted. A total of 27 individuals were indicted on Wednesday, with 22 already in custody and five still at large. These individuals are responsible for the distribution of large quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine in and around Huntington. The indictments were the result of an eight-month investigation involving multiple states.
Thompson emphasized the commitment of his office to targeting individuals who pose a threat to communities through drug trafficking and accompanying violence. He also praised the collaborative efforts of various law enforcement agencies involved in the case, highlighting their exemplary investigative work and teamwork.
Search and arrest warrants were obtained by law enforcement agencies, with several of them executed on November 15. As a result, officers were able to seize approximately two pounds of methamphetamine, two pounds of fentanyl, 26 firearms, and $10,500.
Thompson's office revealed that the group includes individuals from states outside of West Virginia, such as Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio. The indicted individuals include Kayla Dawn Powell, Christopher Anthony O'Dell, Denzil Roger Grant II, Georgia Alice Jackson, Donald James Duty, Shakur Raekwan Joyce, Kyla Smith, and Walter Alvin Cremeans, among others.
Sheriff Chuck Zerkle of Cabell County hailed the arrests as a combined effort of federal, state, county, and local law enforcement agencies working together to indict these individuals, who had been supplying significant amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl to the Huntington area for an extended period of time. Multiple federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies played a crucial role in the months-long investigation and arrests.
