RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Max Shulga scored 17 points as VCU beat Samford 75-65 on Friday night.
Shulga shot 5 for 9 (4 for 7 from 3-point range) and 3 of 4 from the free throw line for the Rams (1-1). Zeb Jackson added 13 points while shooting 5 for 9, including 1 for 4 from beyond the arc, and he also had seven assists and four steals. Jason Nelson shot 4 for 10 (0 for 4 from 3-point range) and 3 of 4 from the free throw line to finish with 11 points, while adding six steals.
The Bulldogs (0-2) were led by Jermaine Marshall, who posted 20 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. A.J. Staton-McCray added 16 points and three steals for Samford. Achor Achor also had six points.

VCU's next game is Wednesday against Radford at home. Samford hosts Mississippi College on Tuesday.
