Chocolate-covered strawberries are one of my favorite sweet treats. Scrumptious with a delicate, romantic appeal, chocolate-covered strawberries are the perfect dessert to present to a loved one on Valentine’s Day.
Making chocolate-covered strawberries at home is easier than one might imagine. There are a couple of methods of preparation, but both result in a delicious, decadent dessert.
Whether melting the chocolate in a bowl over heated water, or simply microwaving the semi-sweet pieces until melted, both methods are easily done.
I do have a few tips to ensure success. First, thoroughly pat dry the strawberries after washing them. Even a drop of water can prevent the chocolate from adhering to the strawberries.
Second, avoid overheating and burning the chocolate. When preparing in the microwave, heat in increments of no more than one minute on low power. Stir, then microwave for an additional one minute to melt the chocolate.
If you enjoy chocolate-covered strawberries half as much as I do, then clip this recipe and give it a try. This easy recipe is a perfect way to celebrate love.
Chocolate-Covered Strawberries
6 ounces semisweet chocolate pieces
1 pound strawberries, about 20
Parchment or wax paper
To begin this recipe, wash and thoroughly dry strawberries. Next, line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper and set aside.
Place the semisweet chocolate pieces into a heatproof bowl. Fill one medium saucepan with a couple of inches of water and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Turn off the heat and set bowl of chocolate over the water to melt.
If you prefer to use a microwave, then simply place the semisweet chocolate pieces into a microwavable safe bowl. Melt chocolate on low power for one minute, stir and then heat for an additional minute until chocolate is melted. Avoid overheating and burning the chocolate.
Once semisweet chocolate pieces are melted and smooth, hold a strawberry by the stem and dip the fruit into the melted chocolate. Lift and twist the strawberry gently to allow any excess chocolate to fall back into the bowl. Place the chocolate-covered strawberry on the parchment- or wax-paper-lined baking sheet.
Repeat with the rest of the strawberries. Allow the chocolate-covered strawberries to sit for about 30 minutes before serving.
If making this recipe the day before, then simply store the chocolate-covered strawberries on the prepared baking sheet in the refrigerator overnight and serve the next day.
Enjoy!
