Tyler Burton scored 10 of his 15 points in Villanova’s dominant first half, and the 21st-ranked Wildcats rolled to a 57-40 victory over cold-shooting Maryland. TJ Bamba added 11 points as the Wildcats rebounded nicely from Monday’s loss to unranked Penn. Julian Reese had 10 points for Maryland, which dropped its third straight. The Terrapins finished with just 12 field goals while shooting 24% from the field.

The Baltimore Orioles avoided arbitration with infielder Jorge Mateo and three other players Friday. The Orioles and the speedy Mateo settled on a $2.7 million deal. Baltimore also agreed to one-year contracts with left-hander Keegan Akin and outfielders Sam Hilliard and Ryan McKenna. Mateo batted just .217 for the AL East champions this year, but the 28-year-old shortstop finished the season with 32 stolen bases after posting 35 in 2022. Akin went 2-2 with a 6.85 ERA, and McKenna hit .254 with two home runs and 18 RBIs. The Orioles claimed Hilliard off waivers from the Atlanta Braves a couple weeks ago.

Kevin Miller had 25 points, Hunter Salas scored 24 and Wake Forest finished strong to beat Towson 71-61 in the consolation final of the Charleston Classic. Messiah Jones hit back-to-back baskets to give Towson (2-3) a 56-54 lead with 5:44 remaining. Salas hit a jumper to tie it and Miller took over from there, scoring 11 of the final 15 points for Wake Forest (2-2). Miller sank 11 of 17 shots from the floor for the Demon Deacons. Salas made 8 of 12 shots, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Freshman Tyler Tejada topped the Tigers with 17 points.

This was probably Baltimore’s biggest win of the season so far. And its most costly. The Ravens defeated Cincinnati on Thursday night. Then coach John Harbaugh announced tight end Mark Andrews is likely to miss the rest of the season because of an ankle injury. Baltimore remained atop the AFC North and completed a series sweep of the last-place Bengals. But now the Ravens face the reality of being without one of their most consistent offensive performers. Andrews was hurt on the first drive of Baltimore's 34-20 victory.

The Federal Aviation Administration says it will investigate after a drone briefly delayed the Ravens-Bengals game in Baltimore. The FAA says drones are barred from flying within 3 miles of stadiums that seat at least 30,000 people during events including National Football League and Major League Baseball games, and in the hour before they start and after they end. When the drone violated the FAA’s temporary flight restriction during Thursday night's game, the Maryland Stadium Authority says Maryland State Police and authority officials found the operator, who was directed to immediately land the drone. Officials say the operator was unaware of the restrictions and did not have a waiver to operate the drone in stadium airspace during the game.

A person familiar with the decision tells the AP the NFL is investigating why Cincinnati did not list Joe Burrow on its injury report before the Bengals' game with Baltimore. The quarterback was knocked out of Thursday night's loss to the Ravens with a sprained right wrist. The Bengals posted a video on social media that was later deleted showing Burrow getting off a team bus with his right hand in what appeared to be a soft cast. Such reviews are not uncommon with the NFL regularly looking into similar cases. Teams can be fined or lose a draft pick for violating the NFL’s injury report policy.

LJ Cryer scored 18 points and No. 6 Houston used a 19-4 run in the first half to take control on the way to a 65-49 victory over Houston to advance in the Charleston Classic. The Cougars (4-0) will face the winner of the Utah-Wake Forest game on Friday for a spot in Sunday’s championship final in the eight-team event. Cryer got Houston off to a strong start Thursday as the team turned a tight game early into a runaway. He had a three-point play and a 3-pointer in the surge as the Cougars moved in front 24-7.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has left the game at Baltimore with a right wrist injury. Burrow threw a 4-yard scoring pass to Joe Mixon in the second quarter. But a short while later, he tried a practice throw and the ball slipped out of his hand and he winced. Burrow went down the tunnel with a frustrated look on his face. Burrow was 11 of 17 for 101 yards and a touchdown when he left the game. Backup Jack Browning replaced him with the Bengals down 14-10. Burrow dealt with a calf injury earlier this season, but he hasn’t missed a game this year.

Paige Bueckers had 24 points and six steals as No. 8 UConn rebounded from its first loss of the season with an 80-48 victory over No. 20 Maryland. Aaliyah Edwards and KK Arnold each scored 12 points for the Huskies (2-1).  Ashlynn Shade added 10 points and Aubrey Griffin had nine points and 13 rebounds. Shyanne Sellers scored 16 points and Jakia Brown-Turner added 13 points for Maryland (1-2). The Huskies held the Terps to just 15 field goals (26% shooting) and forced 27 turnovers, leading to 29 UConn points. The Terps have now lost two straight after falling to top-ranked South Carolina on Sunday.

The Washington Commanders hope to get on track and back in the playoff hunt when they host the struggling New York Giants on Sunday. The Commanders at 4-6 are still on the fringe of the NFC wild-card race even after losing at Seattle last week. Washington's offense has heated up significantly since sputtering in a 14-7 defeat at New York less than a month ago. Quarterback Sam Howell leads the league with 2,783 yards passing thanks to offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy leaning in on throwing early and often. Tommy DeVito is set to make his second NFL start for the Giants, who have lost three in a row.

UConn guard Azzi Fudd sustained a knee injury in practice this week and was ruled out of Thursday’s game between the No. 8 Huskies and No. 20 Maryland. The junior, who has had an injury-plagued career, has averaged 11 points in the Huskies' two games this season, a win over Dayton and a loss to No. 14 North Carolina State. UConn said in a statement that Fudd injured her knee in practice this week and that more information will be available “at a later date,” following testing.

A win at Maryland on Saturday would make No. 2 Michigan the first college football program with 1,000 victories. The unbeaten Wolverines are trying for their third straight conference championship. Next week’s showdown with Ohio State is the hurdle they need to clear as they pursue that. In fact, Michigan could lose to Maryland and still reach the Big Ten title game by beating the Buckeyes. If the Wolverines are distracted by the sign-stealing scandal that resulted in the suspension of coach Jim Harbaugh, maybe a shot at a historic victory can help them stay focused. Maryland snapped a four-game losing streak last weekend at Nebraska.

No. 2 Michigan can reach the Big Ten title game with a win over Ohio State next week. That's regardless of what happens against Maryland this weekend. But given the number of other unbeaten teams around the nation, the Wolverines will want to stay undefeated themselves to avoid a hit to their playoff chances. The Terrapins became bowl eligible last week and snapped a four-game skid. So the pressure should be off when they try to pull the upset against Michigan.

The Washington Commanders host Tommy DeVito and the New York Giants in a game they hope gets them back on track. The Commanders have lost six of eight games since starting 2-0. They're still on the fringes of the NFC wild-card race at 4-6. Washington is coming off a 29-26 defeat at Seattle. DeVito is making his second NFL start for the Giants. New York has lost three in a row to fall to 2-8. The Commanders are 9 1/2-point favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Luka Doncic scored 26 points and had 10 assists as the Dallas Mavericks eased to a 130-117 victory over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night. Doncic also grabbed seven rebounds to fall narrowly shy of this third double-double of the season after being held to a season-low 16 points in a loss at New Orleans on Tuesday. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 31 points and sank seven 3-pointers for the Mavericks on a night point guard Kyrie Irving sat out with a sprained left foot. Derrick Jones Jr. had 20 points and Dereck Lively II had 17 on 7-of-8 shooting. Kyle Kuzma scored 22 points to lead the Wizards, who lost their fourth straight two nights after giving back a double-digit lead in a loss at Toronto.

Mike James scored 12 points, sophomore Tre White had 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Louisville beat Coppin State 61-41. White secured his first career double-double with just under 12 minutes to play. Louisville used a 7-0 run early in second half to go ahead by double figures for good. The Cardinals held Coppin State to just one field goal — with 35 seconds left — in the final six minutes. The Eagles were just 7 of 28 from the field (25%) in the second half with eight turnovers. Skyy Clark also scored 10 points for Louisville (2-1). James converted a three-point play with 3:14 left in the first half, capping a 9-0 run, to give Louisville its first double-digit lead at 30-19.

Sam Howell is the NFL’s leading passer with 2,783 yards, and his 264 completions are also the most of any quarterback through the first 10 weeks of the season. He’s the focal point of the Washington Commanders' season as the organization hopes to have finally found a long-term solution at the most important position in football. Expect them to keep throwing the ball a lot this weekend against the New York Giants and down the stretch as Howell tries to keep the job beyond this year.

Charlie Lindgren made 35 saves to help the Washington Capitals shut out the defending Stanley Cup champion and NHL-best Vegas Golden Knights 3-0. Dylan Strome scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season. The Capitals have won three in a row and seven of their past nine games. Vegas goaltender Logan Thompson allowed two goals on 30 shots. The Golden Knights have lost three of their past four.

Brandon Hyde was voted American League Manager of the Year after guiding the Baltimore Orioles to an AL-best 101 victories just two years after a 110-loss season. Miami’s Skip Schumaker won the National League award in voting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Hyde led Baltimore out of a difficult rebuild in which the Orioles improved to 83-79 in 2022 and he finished second in voting to Cleveland’s Terry Francona. Hyde earned 27 of 30 first-place votes this year. Schumaker received eight first-place votes, three more than runner-up Craig Counsell, who left Milwaukee last week to manage the Chicago Cubs.

Vegas Golden Knights forward Paul Cotter was ejected for an illegal check to the head of Washington Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov during the teams' game Tuesday night. Cotter hit Kuznetsov in the head with his left shoulder early in the second period. Kuznetsov lay on the ice for more than a minute and immediately left the ice to get checked out. Officials reviewed the hit and gave Cotter a match penalty that carried with it a five-minute Capitals power play. Kuznetsov returned later in the period. Cotter now faces the possibility of a suspension.

Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh says he’s spoken to his brother, Jim, quite a bit, and he’s proud of how the Michigan coach has handled the sign-stealing scandal that put the program under investigation. John Harbaugh says Jim's phones and computers have been looked at, and he's “come through this thing with flying colors.” John Harbaugh says of the investigation into his brother: “I don’t know what they are trying to get, but they don’t have anything of substance.” The Big Ten Conference did acknowledge while suspending Jim Harbaugh last week that it hadn't received any information indicating he was aware of the impermissible nature of the sign-stealing scheme. The league said the suspension was meant to punish the university, not Harbaugh.

Robert Saleh’s loyalty isn’t helping the New York Jets win games. Saleh is sticking with Zach Wilson at quarterback even though the Jets haven’t reached the end zone on 36 consecutive drives. Saleh insists Wilson isn’t the only problem and he won’t make a change simply for a spark. His logic is reasonable. The offense commits too many penalties, players drop passes and linemen miss blocks. It’s hard to put all the blame on one guy but the Jets would be in better position to make a playoff push if their offense wasn’t dismal.

First baseman Dominic Smith and right-hander Cory Abbott have been designated for assignment by the Washington Nationals. The club also requested unconditional release waivers for right-hander Andrés Machado. The Nationals say Machado plans to pitch in Japan. The moves open room on the 40-man roster, and Washington selected the contracts of four pitchers: right-handers Cole Henry and Zach Brzykcy, and left-handers DJ Herz and Mitchell Parker. Smith hit .254 with a .326 on-base percentage and a .366 slugging percentage in 2023, with 12 homers and 46 RBIs for the Nationals. Washington went 71-91 for a fourth consecutive last-place finish in the NL East.

Pascal Siakam scored a season-high 39 points, including the go-ahead basket with eight seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, and the Toronto Raptors overcame a 23-point deficit to beat the Washington Wizards 111-107. Siakam sparked Toronto’s comeback with 22 points in the third quarter. He finished with 11 rebounds. Washington’s Kyle Kuzma scored a season-high 34 points but turned the ball over out of bounds after Siakam’s late basket gave Toronto its first lead since the opening quarter. Washington led 107-95 with 5:47 left to play in the fourth quarter but didn’t score again.

Baltimore's 33-31 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday was the second time this season Baltimore has been beaten on the final play. The Ravens took the lead in the very first minute and held it until they lost with no time remaining. Instead of securing a crucial series sweep of Cleveland, Baltimore fell to just a half-game ahead of the Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North. Now the Ravens host Cincinnati on Thursday night. The Ravens have led after three quarters in every game this season.

Baltimore Orioles infielder Gunnar Henderson was a unanimous pick for American League Rookie of the Year on Monday night after a stellar all-around season that helped push the franchise to a 101-win season. The 22-year-old split time between third base and shortstop, providing above-average defense at both spots, while also batting .255 with 28 homers, 82 RBIs, 29 doubles and 10 stolen bases. Henderson was part of a superb MLB rookie class — particularly for hitters. The National League Rookie of the Year winner will be announced later Monday. The finalists are Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll, Dodgers outfielder James Outman and Mets pitcher Kodai Senga.

Magic Johnson was among those disappointed in how the Washington Commanders' defense played in a 29-26 loss at Seattle that dropped them to 4-6. By far the most well-known member of the new ownership group, Johnson was upset at the lack of big plays by Washington defenders when the game was on the line late. Coach Ron Rivera was similarly unhappy with some missed opportunities and mistakes on that side of the ball. The Commanders are in a bit of a transition period after trading pass rushers Chase Young and Montez Sweat. They hope to be more in sync Sunday when they host the New York Giants.

LSU's Jayden Daniels turned in the top statistical performance of the season against Florida. Daniels passed for 372 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 234 and two TDs. His 606 yards of total offense were a national season high. Oklahoma's Dillon Gabriel was responsible for eight TDs against West Virginia, most by a player since 2019. Missouri’s Cody Schrader set a season high with 321 all-purpose yards against Tennessee. Nebraska’s FBS-high turnover total increased to 27 after it committed five against Maryland. Michael Dansby's 98-yard pick-six for San Jose State against Fresno State tied for second-longest of the season.

Sam Howell showed more signs Sunday that he may be the long-term answer at quarterback for the Washington Commanders. His latest encouraging performance came in yet another close loss. Howell did his part, especially in the fourth quarter, to give the Commanders a chance at a second straight road victory. But Washington was unable to stop Seattle on its final drive and lost 29-26. Four of Washington’s last five losses have come by one score. Howell threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter that pulled the Commanders even.

Jason Myers converted his fifth field goal of the game, a 43-yarder as time expired, and the Seattle Seahawks held off the Washington Commanders 29-26. Seattle quarterback Geno Smith and Washington QB Sam Howell traded big throws and touchdown passes in the final 5 minutes, but it was Smith who had the the final chance at the victory and came through. Howell pulled Washington even at 26-26 on a 35-yard touchdown pass to Dyami Brown with 52 seconds remaining. Smith took over and made a pair of big throws to DK Metcalf to get the Seahawks into field goal range.

Vying for their fifth straight victory and looking to fortify their lead in the AFC North, the Baltimore Ravens bolted to a quick two-touchdown lead and appeared on their way to another rout at home. Given that Baltimore won its previous two home games by a combined 75-9 score, there was no reason to believe this matchup against the Cleveland Browns — whom the Ravens beat 28-3 last month — was going to be any different. Cleveland had other plans. Despite trailing for much of the afternoon, including 31-17 with 11:34 remaining, the Browns rallied for a 33-31 victory Sunday on a 40-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins as time expired.

Michigan headed into a fateful week with a court hearing, a road trip to Maryland and a swagger built on the growing belief within the program that it’s them against the world. “Michigan vs. Everybody” merchandise was flying off the racks at a retail store near the Wolverines’ campus, a day after the second-ranked team beat its first ranked opponent and the school prepared for its legal battle fight to free Jim Harbaugh from a Big Ten suspension for a sign-stealing saga that has captivated attention for three weeks.

Mikal Bridges had 27 points and 13 rebounds, and the Brooklyn Nets recovered after blowing a 17-point lead to beat the Washington Wizards 102-94. Cam Johnson added 14 points and starting center Nic Claxton, in just his second game of the season, had 10 points and 13 rebounds to spark a huge rebounding advantage and help the Nets finish strong after they had coughed up the lead. Rookie Bilal Coulibaly, Victor Wembanyama’s teammate last season in France, had a season-high 20 points for the Wizards.

Eric Gaines scored 20 points and UAB used a 13-0 run in the second half to defeat Maryland 66-63 for third place in the Asheville Championship. The Blazers held on despite missing their last six shots and making three turnovers in the last 6-plus minutes. They made 7 of 8 free throws in that stretch, the last by Gaines with 9.8 seconds left. The Terrapins’ game-tying shot attempt failed to hit the rim and they were 3 of 13 in the last six minutes. Alejandro Vasquez scored 15 points, 14 in the second half going 8 of 8 from the line, for the Blazers. Jahmir Young led Maryland with 14 points. The Terrapins lost to Davidson 64-61 in the tournament opener.

Chloe Kitts had career highs of 13 points and 10 rebounds and helped fuel a game-changing, 17-4 burst right before halftime as No. 6 South Carolina ran past No. 14 Maryland 114-76 on Sunday. Kitts was a little-used freshman who joined the program at midseason last year. Gamecocks sophomore Ashlyn Watkins had 13 points, 11 rebounds and five of the team's 10 blocks. Te-Hina Paopao, an Oregon transfer, had 14 points. Shyanne Sellers led the Terps with 21 points. Maryland had not given up 100 points in almost 21 years.

The Washington Wizards say backup guard Delon Wright has a sprained left knee and will be re-evaluated in three weeks. The team says the injury will be treated “conservatively” after Wright was hurt in the fourth quarter of Friday night’s loss to Charlotte. The 31-year-old Wright has averaged 17.6 minutes and 5.0 points per game this season. Washington plays at Brooklyn on Sunday.

Jordan Toles returned a fourth-quarter kickoff 73 yards for the go-ahead touchdown and Morgan State defeated South Carolina State 20-17. After South Carolina State’s Gavy Zimmerman kicked a 28-yard field goal for a 17-13 lead, his squib kick on the ensuing kickoff was picked up by Toles who broke several tackles on the way to the game-changing touchdown. Quincy Johnson intercepted South Carolina State’s Corey Fields Jr. on the next play from scrimmage and Morgan State ran the final 4 1/2 minutes off the clock.

Ryan O’Connor threw for 246 yards and four touchdowns and eighth-ranked (FCS) Delaware demolished Campbell 45-7. Khalil Dawsey intercepted Hajj-Malik Williams at the goal line and he ran it back 100 yards to push the lead to 21-0 with 3:34 left in the first quarter. Campbell scored when Hajj-Malik Williams ran it in from 3 to conclude an eight-play, 75-yard drive with 49 seconds before the end of the third.

Connor Watkins threw for 299 yards and three first-half touchdowns, Rayjuon Pringle made five catches for 180 yards and two scores, and Villanova beat Towson 33-10 for its fifth straight win. Pringle’s 79-yard catch-and-run opened the scoring with 9:40 left in the first quarter. He added a 63-yarder with 2:43 left in the second quarter, and Watkins threw his third touchdown pass with 26 seconds remaining in the half for a 24-0 lead. Villanova added two points in the fourth quarter on a sack in the end zone by Capri Martin. Chris Watkins led Towson (4-6, 3-4) with 90 yards rushing, including a 75-yard score in the fourth.

Jack Howes made a 24-yard field goal as time ran out to lift Maryland to a 13-10 win over Nebraska. Maryland’s victory was its first since late September and snapped a four-game losing streak and made the Terrapins bowl eligible. Nebraska dropped its second straight game and still to win one of its last two games to play in a bowl for the first time since 2016.

Max Abmas scored 19 points, Ithiel Horton added 18 and No. 18 Texas used a flurry of 3-pointers to pull away for an 86-59 victory over Delaware State. The Longhorns (2-0) made seven 3-pointers in the second half, finishing the game 12 for 22. Some of those long-distance shots keyed a 27-2 push for Texas after the Longhorns led by just seven midway through the second half. Horton, who transferred this season from Central Florida, was 5 of 6 from behind the arc. He is 8 of 13 in two games as a Longhorn.

Gordon Hayward scored 27 points, LaMelo Ball added 25 and the Charlotte Hornets shook off their 3-point shooting struggles just in time to earn a 124-117 victory over the Washington Wizards. Mark Williams added 19 points and career-high 21 rebounds for the Hornets, who made their debut in the NBA In-Season Tournament with a road win in East Group B. Williams led Charlotte to a dominating 64-36 edge on the glass that helped keep the game close until the shooting finally came around. Kyle Kuzma scored 17 points for Washington, failing to reach 20 for the first time this season.

Freshman Bobby Durkin buried a go-ahead 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining and scored 16 points to lead Davidson to a 64-61 victory over Maryland in the opener of the Asheville Championship. Davidson (2-0) will play the winner of Friday’s nightcap between Clemson and UAB in the title game on Sunday. Maryland (1-1) will play the loser on Sunday. Durkin came off the bench to make 4 of 5 shots from beyond the arc for the Wildcats, who improved to 4-8 all-time against the Terrapins in a series that dates to the 1938-39 season when both were members of the Southern Conference.

Browns starting rookie right tackle Dawand Jones will miss Sunday’s game at Baltimore with shoulder and knee injuries, further depleting Cleveland’s offensive line as it gets ready to face one of the NFL’s top defenses. Jones missed his third straight practice Friday and was ruled out by coach Kevin Stefanski. The loss of Jones comes after the Browns placed starting left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. on injured reserve this week after he hurt his knee last Sunday against Arizona. Stefanski wouldn’t reveal any plans to replace Jones, but James Hudson III and Geron Christian are among his many options.

Gerardo Parra — of “Baby Shark” fame — will be the new first base coach for the Washington Nationals as part of a series of changes to manager Dave Martinez’s staff. The club announced the new roles on Friday. The Nationals went 71-91 in 2023 for their fourth consecutive last-place finish in the NL East. Miguel Cairo will be Martinez’s bench coach and Ricky Gutierrez is shifting to third base coach after holding the title of run prevention coordinator in 2023. Chris Johnson was hired as assistant hitting coach. Holdovers include hitting coach Darnell Coles, pitching coach Jim Hickey, catching and strategy coach Henry Blanco and bullpen coach Ricky Bones.

Baltimore beat Cleveland 28-3 earlier this season, but that was with Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson out and Dorian Thompson-Robinson making his first career start. When the teams meet again in Baltimore on Sunday, the two star quarterbacks should be ready. The matchup between them is actually pretty rare. Watson’s injury kept him out of the Browns-Ravens matchup this October. Last season, the first meeting pitted Jackson against Jacoby Brissett with Watson suspended. The second matchup was between Watson and Tyler Huntley because of an injury to Jackson. Jackson and Watson did face off twice when the latter was with Houston. The Ravens won both times.

Keaton Mitchell needed only 14 offensive snaps and nine carries to make himself known in Baltimore's 37-3 win over Seattle. The 21-year-old rookie ran for 138 yards and a touchdown after not having a single rushing attempt in his first two NFL games. It’s fair to say Baltimore’s next opponent is now aware of him. That's Cleveland this weekend. It remains to be seen whether Mitchell can become a consistently productive runner, but he’s on the right team for that. Since quarterback Lamar Jackson joined the Ravens in 2018, Baltimore has finished in the top three in rushing every season.

The Seattle Seahawks will look to rebound from last week's blowout loss when they host the Washington Commanders. Seattle was humbled 37-3 by Baltimore last week in the second-worst loss of Pete Carroll's tenure with the Seahawks. They return home facing a critical game against the Commanders considering what is on the horizon for the Seahawks. Washington won last week at New England to remain on the fringe of the NFC playoff discussion at the midpoint of the season. QB Sam Howell continues to put up big numbers, but the question remains if the Commanders defense can continue to hold up after trading two of their top pass rushers.

The Baltimore Ravens host the Cleveland Browns this weekend in a rivalry that's been one-sided though the years. The Ravens are 36-13 against the Browns. Baltimore won 11 straight in one stretch and 24 of the past 30. However, the teams have split the past four matchups. Ravens coach John Harbaugh is 25-6 against the Browns. It's the first of two straight AFC North games for both teams. Baltimore takes on Cincinnati next week and Cleveland faces Pittsburgh.

The upset winner of the 2022 Kentucky Derby has been retired. Keeneland Race Course says Rich Strike will be offered for sale as a stallion prospect next week. The 4-year-old colt won the Derby at 80-1 odds for the second-biggest upset in the race's history. Owner Rick Dawson says injuries prevented Rich Strike from returning to racing after he finished fifth in his final start in May. The colt lost his next six races after the Derby, including finishing sixth in the 2022 Belmont Stakes.

This week’s “Fox NFL Sunday” pregame show will originate from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, continuing the network’s tradition of going to military installations in honor of Veterans Day. Fox Sports did a show from West Point in 2019, and the Naval Academy in 2021. The show has also originated from military bases around the world, including Afghanistan. The entire pregame crew of Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan, Jimmy Johnson, Jay Glazer and Rob Gronkowski will appear along with 1,000 Air Force Academy cadets.

No. 2 Michigan takes a break from its sign-stealing saga and visits No. 9 Penn State in the game of the week in the Big Ten. The Wolverines will be playing their toughest game to date. A win here puts Michigan in position to play Ohio State for a third straight Big Ten East title barring upsets. A loss likely knocks the Wolverines out of the top four in the College Football Playoff rankings and muddles the East race. Penn State has lost to Ohio State and must win to stay in contention in the division.

Sam Reinhart scored 15 seconds into overtime to give the Florida Panthers a 4-3 victory at the Washington Capitals. The defending Eastern Conference champions have won two in a row and three of four. Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves and could hardly be blamed for any of the three goals he allowed. Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and captain Aleksander Barkov also scored for the Panthers. Washington's Alex Ovechkin was again held without a goal and has just two through 11 games this season. The Capitals have lost two of three.

Kyle Kuzma scored 33 points and the Washington Wizards made 18 3-pointers to beat the Charlotte Hornets 132-116 on Wednesday night and snap a four-game losing streak. Danilo Gallinari and Delon Wright each added 18 points and Landry Shamet had 15 as Washington’s reserves outscored Charlotte’s 72-23. LaMelo Ball, coming off a 30-point triple-double in a loss to Dallas, had a season-high 34 points for the Hornets. Gordon Hayward added 18 points for Charlotte. Brandon Miller, the No. 2 overall pick this year, had 13 points in his first home start. Both teams are 2-5. They will meet again Friday night in Washington in an NBA In-Season Tournament game.

Bradley Beal finally took his spot on the court for Phoenix on Wednesday night, giving the Suns two of their three stars against the Chicago Bulls. Acquired from Washington in June, the 30-year-old Beal sat out of the first seven games of the season because of a back injury. He joined Kevin Durant in the startling lineup, while the Suns await Devin Booker’s return from a calf injury. Beal averaged 22.1 points in 11 seasons with Washington. Coach Frank Vogel said the three-time All-Star guard would see limited playing time against the Bulls.

The Breeders’ Cup will return to Del Mar in 2025 after the track north of San Diego hosts next year. It will mark the fourth time the track hosts the two-day world championships, after doing so in 2017, 2021 and next year. The dates for 2024 will be Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 and in 2025 they will be Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. The 2021 event was held during the COVID-19 pandemic with limited attendance allowed. But it had total wagering of more than $182 million.

Deshaun Watson was safe on the sideline the previous time the Cleveland Browns played the Baltimore Ravens. He'll be in harm's way on Sunday. Watson, who returned last week after missing four games with a strained right shoulder, will be facing the NFL's top-ranked defense when the Browns visit the Ravens. Watson sat out on Oct. 1 against the Ravens and they feasted on rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson in a 28-3 win. Cleveland's defense is nearly as good and the Browns know they have to do a better job this time against Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, who had two rushing touchdowns and two TD passes in the previous matchup.
