CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — Contemporary Christian music rocked the house Friday night at the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center.
We Are Messengers performed on the historic theater’s stage, along with two opening acts, Cochren and Co. and Ben Fuller.
“We are Messengers is extremely popular right now,” said Jason A. Young, Robinson Grand program manager. “They are a contemporary Christian music group who is relatively new. They are setting a new bar for contemporary Christian music. I think they will put on a great show.”
It was the group’s idea to perform at the Robinson Grand, Young said.
“They actually contacted us to come here,” he said. “Normally we go out and try to find talent to come perform here, but that was not the case. We Are Messengers had heard through the grapevine that we have a nice venue, so they came here.”
We Are Messengers has traveled all over the country on its “Where the Joy Is” tour.
“This is stop number 37 on their tour,” Young said. “I am honored they chose us to come play here. From what they have told me, they have played in some really nice places so far, but they hold our stage in high regards.”
Even though We Are Messengers has never performed in Clarksburg before, Friday’s concert drew a big crowd, Young said.
“This show has sold around 750 tickets,” he said. “I would say they are definitely in high demand here in Clarksburg. I also have a good feeling that the opening acts, Cochren and Co. and Ben Fuller, will gain some new fans as well this evening.”
Among those attending Friday’s concert was Lisa Knight of Worthington, who originally heard We Are Messengers on the radio.
“We have heard them through K-Love,” she said. “My husband and I listen to K-Love all of the time. That is where we first heard We Are Messengers. I had seen on Facebook that they were coming to Clarksburg, and I have been excited ever since.”
Friday’s concert meant something special to Knight.
“This is actually my birthday present,” she said. “I told my husband they are going to be here right after my birthday, so he bought us tickets as a surprise.”
Concert-goer Charles Linadurg of Clarksburg said he also first heard the group on K-Love.
“They are really good. I am actually coming here with a group of my friends, and we are so stoked. I absolutely love their music,” Linadurg said.
“I am excited,” he said. “I recently got into contemporary Christian music, and I would say they were my introduction into it. I love the way they play their music. It changes the game. They make you want to sing along, and I plan on it.”
